The rural north county community of Escondido’s name is Spanish for  “hidden.”  
Escondido was incorporated as a city in 1888 and is one of the oldest cities in San Diego County. With a population of 141,940, Escondido is still small enough to feel like a community rather than a full blown city, even though it encompasses almost 37 square miles.  Escondido is also home to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park (formerly known as the Wild Animal Park).

Escondido serves its residents with many churches and religious facilities. Founded in 1889, Trinity Episcopal Church in Escondido, California is one of the oldest churches in the San Diego Episcopal Diocese. It is the second oldest church in Escondido. Transportation systems in Escondido include the Sprinter which runs along the 78 Corridor, and North county transit.
